Bertschi School is an independent school located on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Bertschi has served a diverse community of learners for more than 40 years.
In 1975, Brigitte Bertschi opened the doors to Bertschi School with the vision of a supportive and inclusive environment where children truly delight in the challenges and rewards of learning. For nearly four decades, Bertschi has offered an education that successfully intertwines the intellectual, emotional, and social development of a child. The school achieves this balance by weaving together discovery and challenge, individual attention and community experience, artistic expression and scientific inquiry, enthusiastic play and quiet reflection. As a result, Bertschi students are joyful learners supported by a nurturing community.
Today, Bertschi enrolls more than 240 students in grades pre-kindergarten through five, on a campus that now spans the length of an entire city block. With the recent addition of the Science Wing, the
school boasts both a LEED Gold certified Bertschi Center and a Living Building, which both offer a unique opportunity for students to learn about sustainability while also living it.

Last week, a family dog came to pick-up his kids without their parents. It was a little surprising at pick-up to find Bayland waiting at the gate, but our Bertschi community knew exactly who he was. Proving that Bertschi is home for all of us, even the family dog. Thanks for loving your kids so much and knowing that it was time to pick them up from school, Bayland!
