Seattle Country Day School

There are some children whose ability, passion, and curiosity are simply too big for traditional schools. They need a community of learners like them, plus brilliant, tireless teachers who truly understand them and find joy in teaching them.

These students do their best learning in a place where rigorous academics are just the starting point—where the day is often shaped by the questions they ask, and where a lesson plan is, by design, more roadmap than agenda.

Such students thrive in a place where they will internalize forever the understanding that having your own ideas and using them to solve complex problems is just as important as simply knowing the right answer. A place that gently reminds them every day: You belong. And the world needs your gifts.

For some, Seattle Country Day School is that place.

As one of our students put it: “I feel like a puzzle piece that finally found the right box.”

As the 2017 Winterim season come to an end, we're sure there are many more Yowie-wearing adventures ahead for you and your family. We want to know "Where do you Yowie?" over the Mid-Winter break!

As part of the Lower School's Mystery Reader Program, SCDS parent Larisa Whipple surprised and delighted Ms. Luenow's kindergarten class to read "The Kissing Hand," dressed as Mama Raccoon! She is pictured below hugging her SCDS kindergartner, Vivienne.

Today is also SCDS's annual Alumni Winterim Day up on Crystal Mountain. For our alums, the day started off with delicious donuts and coffee in Crystal Mountain's Main Lodge. Grady Short, '15 is pictured here holding up one of this year's SCDS Yowies!

We are stoked for Alumni Winterim Day tomorrow! Looking at this #ThrowbackThursday photo from 2011 and wondering who will don the Wildcat on the slopes this year? #TBT
