Meadowbrook Co-op Preschool is a warm and welcoming space shared by a Pre-3s, 3-5s and Fives programs. We love our large, bright and airy room with its two lofts and open feel. Our emphasis is on trusting children to learn when presented with age appropriate, interesting and diverse experiences and allowing them to find their place in a safe and yet stimulating environment.

Our School Day
Our school day emphasizes creative and imaginative play and includes a free-play time with children choosing activities in the art area, the manipulative toys and puzzle area, the blocks area, the home center, the sensory area, and the art area. Pre-reading and pre-math skills are introduced in the play, and we often work with the children during activities to scribe descriptions of their art and their own stories. We have a snack time focused on social interaction; opening and closing circle times with songs, activities and stories and a large muscle time. For large motor play, our school site offers a choice of an indoor space as well as an outdoor space. We have a large sandbox; a hill with stumps, plants and bark; a climbing toy; a ground level slide and a flat pavement area. We love to get the children outside to run, climb, play ball or dig in the sandbox.
We encourage social skills development and provide a safe and secure environment for children to develop friendships, explore expression of their feelings and practice problem solving skills. During the day children have the opportunity to take initiative through choice and practice co-operation in large and small groups.
3-5s teacher Jan Collver was born and raised in Seattle. She started her education at Magnolia Cooperative Preschool and went on to receive her BA in Education from Western Washington University and take graduate courses from Seattle U and Seattle Pacific U. Jan has a wide range of teaching experiences, including middle school and high school, along with over 10 years of teaching co-op preschool. She has been involved in co-op programs with her own two children and enjoys working with parents and the community building that co-op participation provides.
Teacher Jan provides a stimulating learning environment where children can make discoveries, practice problem solving, and build confidence. She loves messy art projects and science experiments, silly rhymes and fingerplays, and getting outside. She is a wonderful resource for parents having many well-developed methods for working with children in a calm and respectful manner. When not in the classroom Jan can be found in the kitchen, at the beach or movies, reading, or carpooling her very busy middle and high school children to their various activities.
To enroll in a three-to-fives class children should be age 3 by the 1st September of the new school year.
