The Ballard High School Speech and Debate Team is one of the most diverse speech and debate teams in the district; offering all National Forensics League debate and speech events. We are the only completely paperless high school team in the State, and we've experienced tremendous growth and success so far.
Our team hopes to continue to make speech and debate a priority at Ballard, and we strongly believe in the power of forensics. The Debate Team is a place for people to express themselves, learn to communicate, and have their views heard. Many studies show that students who participate in debate in high school develop strong skills that in turn help them succeed in classes.
Meetings are held after school in Ms. Storey's classroom on Thursdays. Students may participate in Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation and more.

This week represents the beginning of the national circuit tournaments and the road to the Tournament of Champions. Competition at this level relies a lot on disclosing your arguments and LD and Policy debaters should be aware of the list, reading the list for ideas and evidence cites.
Those that plan on competing nationally should be prepared to disclose and list their case cites/tags. Disclosure promotes the education level of debate, overall. Most of the education in debate after the first two years comes from preparation prior to tournaments.
Ballard should lead by example (The PNW mostly does not disclose, which drastically hurts the national reputation of the area, particularly in the eyes of college debate programs) and be prepared to disclose if you hope/plan on competing nationally.
You'll also notice that the teams that do disclose in the area are almost always the best debaters in WA, LD or Policy. Steven Adler (MIHS LDer) broke the TOC bid record a few years ago. MIHS, SGS, and Ingraham have been the top policy teams in WA for the past decade. All have a policy of disclosure.
Simple point of fact: If you are so worried about your arguments/evidence that you are afraid to disclose, then your preparation has been too little, and you should find better arguments and evidence.

Other debate opportunities, this looks far more up the alley of a few of the BHS Speech and Debate Team. This also would allow you to network and seek help from your teachers and faculty, spreading the good that is debate and debate culture throughout the school.
